Costa Blanca

Description of the cities and landscapes from Oliva to Altea

The city Oliva is the crossing from Costa Alzahar (The Orange Coast) to the Costa Blanca (The White Coast). There is a wonderful and wide sandy beach in direction to the city Gandia in the north and Denia in the south, which is about 18 kilometers long and therefore not overfilled during the main season. The golf club of Oliva “Oliva Nova Golf” is one of the most impressive of the whole coastal sector (18 holes plus 5 hole driving range). It is comparable to the huge American Spa-Resorts. Like everywhere else on the Costa Blanca the Oliva Nautic Club with its large pool directly at the dune beach, also offers a lot of sailing and scuba diving courses for non-members during summer time. Down town Oliva and the older part of the city has got a few beautiful churches with romantic plazas around, which invite you to rest there.

Once Els Poblets was a small little village - today it streches down to the shore. In the meantime Els Poblets and Denia are melting into another. In the coastal region mainly residential areas were built, with restaurants and little supermarkets - therefore it is the ideal holiday resort.

The beach at Els Poblets will be prepared as sandy beach until July 2005, therefore you enjoy from Denia to Gandia a long sandy beach,  and around Oliva especially beautiful dune beach.

At the beginning of Costa Blanca the city Denia is situated. Denia is imbedded between the majestic mountain Montgo and the Mediterranean Sea. The mediaeval face and flair of the town center could be preserved. On clear weather days your view from the top of the castles reaches as far as up to Ibiza. There is a daily ferry across to Ibiza.
Denia is surrounded by groves of oranges. In the mountainous Hinterland groves of almonds change along with groves of olives – alike all the other coastal places.
-

The broad sandy beach moves from Oliva to the sports- and fishing harbor of Denia upwards the coast. On the other side of Denia the border to the city of Javea is drawn by a spectacular steep coast, which is a perfect place for snorkeling and diving.

There is a wide variety of activities concerning water sports for everyone to select from.

Of course, Denia also offers a lot of different possibilities to amuse and enjoy yourself if you prefer it more turbulent and eventful in your holidays.

Discos, Flamenco shows, boat trips to the Aqualand and Terra Mitica of Benidorm, surfing school, international diving school, big sports- and fishing harbor, excellent restaurants, the stroll over the ”Marques de Campo” with noble boutiques, and numerous local Fiestas.

Treat yourself to a visit of Denia's castle - the splendid view over Denia, the harbour, the sea and the surrounding mountains is overwhelming and worth the trip even in July and August (see below).

On Denia’s southern side creates the landmark of Denia and Javea – the impressive massiv of the Montgo - a natural border and delimitation between these two cities.

Javea is surrounded by the steep coast with the Cap St. Marti and Cap de la Nao. Therefore Javea has got a big sport- and fishing harbor and a lot of small bays (coves). Especially pretty is the so called beach Playa de Arenal.
As well on the harbor as on the Playa de Arenal there is a wide selection of shops where you can go shopping and stroll along the beautiful places, and your physical comforts will also be served through many different restaurants. The historical city center starts at the harbor and passes through the picturesque alleys up the mountain.
-

The picturesque valley of Javea and Gata is covered with almond-, olive- and orange groves. South of the valley there is a natural border – the mountain range of Benissa's Sierra Bernia.

Javea is the perfect place to enjoy a lot of beautiful scenic views over mountains, the sea and steep coasts. It is just breath-taking.

          Cala Portitxol                                                   Cala Granadella

Cala Portitxol has several little bays with senic walks all the way to Cala Ambolo.

You drive down to Cala Granadella on a small, winding road in between pine trees and mountain slopes, leaving the lively Javea far behind.

Golf courses: There are two golf courses around Denia and Javea. “La Sella” near Pedreguer (18 holes) and the “Club de Golf” in Javea (9 holes). “Club de Golf Don Cayo” in Altea (9 holes) is not only a wonderful golf course,  from there you will also enjoy a great view over the azur blue sea, and “Club de Golf Ifach” in Benissa/Moraira (9 holes)

You have the ordeal of choice under all these great places.

Moraira main beach/town view

Moraira main beach/sea view

You will have unforgettable impressions, sitting opposite the yacht harbor in
Moraira, on the small sandy beach El Portet, watching the sunset behind the Penon de Ifac and the sailing ships and boats coming into the harbor getting docked. The 1,5 km distant main beach of Moraira, which is partly sandy, partly rocky migrates into a steep coast, with beautiful bays - very inviting for swimming and snorkeling.
-
Between Moraira and Calpe is the little town Benissa. The beautiful, new residencial areas are stretching over green hills  down to the sea. That's why sporadically you have an overhelming view from the Cap of Moraira to the Penon de Ifac at Calpe - far out the sea.

-

The landmark of the Costa Blanca, which is called “ Penon de Ifac”, seperates the bays of the towns Moraira and Calpe. From the top of the steep coast you will enjoy wide vistas.

You will find bays with sandy beaches alternating with rocky cliffs.

If you like the extremes of hustle and bustle combind with quiet bays and pretty villas  you best come to buoyant Calpe. Calpe has got many very modern apartment houses on the two main bays with sandy beaches, an inviting Old Part of town with many enticing shops, but also very private, peaceful and relaxing holiday domiciles. There is something for everyone to choose from:

walk up the hiking trail to the Penon de Ifac to enjoy the magnificent view,  or watch a fish auction in the harbor or  just relax and sunbathe on one of the sandy beaches Calpe offers you.

Puerto Blanco Beach

Altea differs in altitude and is situated a bit higher.

Therefore you will be able to enjoy very picturesque and wide scenic views. Altea could keep its village charm  and is waiting for you with its numerous and special local Fiestas.

Galleries, arts and crafts are also settled there. Altea reaches downhill as far as to the sea and sets contrasts with a modern part located at the main beach, wherea a sea-promenade with palm trees will guide your way and the beautiful Old Part of Town.

All of the coastal towns offer you a big variety and selection from all kinds of water sport facilities, walking and hiking, mountaineering in the Hinterland, golf, tennis, riding, cycling etc.

At all travel agencies you can book trips to the city Benidorm either by bus or by boat. Benidorm offers something for old and young: many skyscrapers, various leisure- and amusement parks like Terra Mitica (historical theme park), Aqualandia (water fun), and Mundomar (animals of the sea and ocean) as well as the huge dancing show in the evenings. Last but not least, we won´t forget one more thing – of course Benidorm has also got it's beaches.
